Sandbags

Sandbags are available in burlap or woven polypropylene. Small sizes are recommended as a filled bag is very heavy. Traditionally, burlap has been used because it is eco–friendly. If the application is to be permanent, a sand and cement mix is generally used. Start with a dry mix, fill and stack the bags.

Due to the fact that burlap is bio-degradable, it is not always the best choice. Bags that are left in damp conditions will start to degrade. Poly bags do not mind the wet, but are more susceptible to the sun’s UV rays. Thus these factors must be taken into account before choosing the type of bag needed.
